Taiwan's largest end-of-life vehicle recycling plant 銘福 leads the way 台灣鋰電池資源產業協會 established

「台灣鋰電池資源產業協會」 was established on the 10th at the call of 銘福集團 President Chen Fushong(fourth from left), and the inaugural chairman is Chen Yijie(second from left), vice chairman of 名仁資源 under 銘福.(provided by 工研院)

Power lithium batteries, as demand for new energy vehicles heats up, are also key components for energy storage deployment. To make Taiwan's lithium battery circular supply chain more complete, Taiwan's first association linking upstream, midstream, and downstream lithium battery recycling and reuse industry chains officially launched today(10), led by the country's largest end-of-life vehicle recycling processor 銘福集團, bringing together manufacturers across the supply chain to build a circular economy for lithium battery resources, allowing Taiwan to have technical leadership in power battery recycling and to connect with the international community.

Established in 1976, 銘福集團 is the largest end-of-life vehicle processing and recycling plant in Taiwan. Through its reinvestments it controls recycling businesses in different fields across Taiwan, including 金聯成, which focuses on lead-acid batteries (preparing to apply for OTC listing), 大南方, which focuses on refrigerators, televisions and home appliances, and 聯福, which handles household resource recycling. The group's annual revenue could reach tens of billions. 銘福集團 founder Chen Fushong also said at today's alliance founding press conference that more than five years ago the group had already invested in lithium battery recycling technology, mainly through industry-academia cooperation with National Sun Yat-sen University and planned by its subsidiary 銘仁資源回收, and they chose Madou in Tainan to use a wet dissolution method to refine precious metals from lithium batteries. Once this business is ready it will perfectly complete a one-stop service covering the pre- and post-recycling stages of lithium battery recovery. Fang Jiazhen of 工研院材化所 also told attendees at the press conference that international investment in lithium battery recycling has long been active, including mainland Chinese company 格林美, which plans to build very large capacity for power battery recycling; Belgium-based Umicore is also actively seeking to build the world's largest battery recycling facility. Taiwan's lithium battery industry has developed for many years, with a complete supply chain, and should have the opportunity to fill the final piece in building battery recycling technology.

Through 銘福's call, the establishment of 「台灣鋰電池資源產業協會」 also aims to enable industry resources to integrate with each other. At this press conference it was also announced that the association's chairman will be Chen Yijie, vice chairman of 名仁資源 under 銘福集團. Currently about 30 companies have joined the association, with membership reaching 100 people. Besides 銘福集團's 名仁資源, members include 美琪瑪, 榮炭科技, 聯友能源, 光澤科技, 處鋰科技, as well as academia such as National Cheng Kung University, National Taipei University of Technology, Tainan University, Japan's Waseda University, the United States' University of Southern California, Australia's University of Melbourne, research institutions (工研院 etc.) and individual members.
