White graphene

White graphene

"White graphene" is commonly the colloquial name used by the scientific community for hexagonal boron nitride (abbreviated h-BN).

  • Origin of the name: Its two-dimensional crystal structure is very similar to graphene, both exhibiting a hexagonal (honeycomb) planar lattice structure, but because it appears as a white powder, it is called "white graphene".

  • Material properties: In contrast to highly conductive graphene, white graphene is an excellent electrical insulator. At the same time, it possesses very good thermal conductivity, high-temperature resistance, and chemical stability.

  • Common applications: Because of these properties, it is often added to various materials and used in thermal dissipation coatings, thermal pastes, high-temperature solid lubricants, anti-oxidation coatings, and even cosmetics.
